Reality Show Racist? Socialite Says She’s Unfairly Portrayed on High Society

High Society, Jules Kirby

One of the stars of CW’s new reality series High Society says she’s been unfairly edited to look like the villain, but Jules Kirby’s statements on the show don’t exactly help her case.

The socialite was quoted on Wednesday’s debut episode as saying her “friends do tend not to be homosexuals, fat or Jewish people” and that “I use the N word sometimes… and I really think it should be okay to say.”

She’s also caught saying, one night at a club, “That black girl has got to get away.”

Seconds later, the show’s editors wittily insert another, apparently sincere comment from Kirby: “My dream is to work for the United Nations.”

Viewers next see her berate an employee at the hotel where she’s living.

The New York Post’s Page Six notes that Kirby took to Facebook Thursday to complain about her edit. “I am sorry if you were offended,” she said. “The show is scripted, and we are given lines and characters. My grandmother is married to a Jew … Everything was cut and pasted to make it look like I was a stupid b—h, and I regret that they do not do a better job of saying it is a docu-soap, not a reality show.”

Kirby’s pique with the show play nicely into its narrative: She plays villain to our apparent protagonist, newly single socialite Tinlsey Mortimer, as she moves from the Upper East Side to (gasp) Midtown. Kirby lives with Mortimer’s sister, Dabney Mercer, and feuds with the rehabbed-but-still drinking Paul Johnson-Calderon, a hard-spending trust-funder best known for wearing bow ties (who has also been accused of stealing a purse).

The Kirby presented on the show is far different from the public personae she tries to present. In a recent interview she touted her outdoorsy hobbies and “environmentally friendly as it can get” boutique. And she may not have to worry about too many people seeing her portrayal: The show had just 1.4 million viewers and lost in its timeslot Wednesday.

A CW rep did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

High Society airs Wednesdays at 9:30/8:30c.

Navi Rawat and David Krumholtz, Numb3rs

After overcoming multiple kidnappings, outside entanglements and disapproving families, Numb3rs‘ Charlie (David Krumholtz) and Amita (Navi Rawat) are finally getting their happy ending.

But the couple’s long-awaited wedding in Friday’s Season 6 finale (10/9c, CBS) is overshadowed by the ever-growing possibility that the show won’t be back after the honeymoon’s over. Earlier this season, CBS’ math-driven procedural had its episode order reduced by six hours. The result:

Source: Jake Pavelka Hitting on Other Girls!

March 12th, 2010

The Bachelor star Jake Pavelka has totally been hitting on women not named Vienna Girardi since the show, according to a scandalous, unsubstantiated new report.

At a January Dallas Mavericks basketball game, an attractive young woman caught the eye of the pilot, who got engaged to Vienna on the season finale beforehand.

A witness says that Jake followed her from her seat to the concession stand where he dropped the ultimate pickup line: “You might have seen me on a TV show.”

What a smooth operator. He followed that up with “I think you are so beautiful, and you shouldn’t be standing here alone.” Man, this guy has a way with women.

Jake Pavelka was rebuffed, however, as the woman in question turned out to be engaged, and her “beefy fiance” put the kibosh on The Bachelor’s advances.

Vienna Girardi, Jake Pavelka Pic

Has Jake already been straying from Vienna? Or trying to?

Other sources say Pavelka isn’t as serious as his bride-to-be Girardi when the cameras are off: “Everything he’s ever done has been with the goal of getting to the next level,” one source says, and you won’t believe what level he means.

When the religious star embarked on The Bachelor taping, he claimed to have “zero intention” of marrying any of the Bachelorettes. A source reports that he told his girlfriend Tanya Douglas that his goal was completely spiritual.

“He told her he was going to lead 25 women to God,” the insider claims.

That quote has a greater chance of being real than Jake has of actually walking down the aisle with Vienna (even if they talk a good game about procreating hard).

What do you think of these latest Jake Pavelka cheating rumors? Anything his fiancee should worry about? Will Jake and Vienna Girardi last?

Corey Feldman: Haim Was "In the Best Frame of Mind That He’s Ever Been"

Corey Feldman

Corey Haim was in “the best frame of mind” in his life, Corey Feldman said on Larry King Live Wednesday night, adding that people shouldn’t jump to conclusions that his close friend died of a drug overdose.

Corey Haim dead at 38

Haim, who had struggled with addiction for many years, was taken to a Burbank hospital where he was pronounced dead Wednesday morning.

“They need to stop saying it’s a drug overdose,” he told Larry King. “Until the coroner’s report comes out … nobody knows.”

Haim was also dealing with his mother’s cancer battle, but Feldman said in the weeks before his death he was still positive. “Most recently he’s been, honestly, in the best frame of mind that he’s ever been in in the past year,” continued Feldman.

“He was fine. I mean, he was actually giving me some advice about something that I was upset about and he was being very positive. I had just been getting him out more recently. I had taken him up to the Playboy Mansion fairly recently for the Super Bowl party.”

Still, a source familiar with the case told TVGuide.com earlier Wednesday that Haim died of an apparent overdose.

Feldman acknowledged on King’s CNN program that Haim battled addiction for many years.

“I know it better than anybody, because I’ve been the guy stuffing charcoal down his throat when he was OD’ing. I’ve been the guy trying to make him, you know, stand up, or — or say a complete sentence. I’ve been there with him through it many, many times, ” Feldman said. “And it — it’s happened very badly, and very intensely through the years on many occasions.”

Feldman said he was still trying to “digest” Haim’s death. “I don’t think I’ve even come close yet.”

Betty White Hosting Saturday Night Live on May 8

Betty White

Mark your calendars and set your TiVos: Betty White will host Saturday Night Live on May 8 — and she’s bringing some other funny ladies with her.

Joining the Golden Girl for the special Mother’s Day episode are six former SNL players, most of whom are moms: Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, Molly Shannon, Maya Rudolph, Ana Gasteyer and Rachel Dratch.

Betty White will appear on Saturday Night Live

At 88, White will be the show’s oldest host ever, and the gig will also mark her first time as host — a debut that was a long time coming. SNL executive producer Lorne Michaels tells USA Today that he has “always wanted” the beloved comedienne to host, but White turned him down three times.

“It’s so New York, and I’m not New York at all,” she says. “But my agent said he’d divorce me if I didn’t do it, and I love my agent.”

The Facebook campaign imploring SNL to book White “took on a groundswell” following her Super Bowl Snickers commercial, Michael says, and “validated that, ‘Oh, that’d be fun.’”

Betty White looks back and ahead on her golden career

“It isn’t something we would have said no to,” he says. “It was the outpouring of affection from fans, and we feel the same way.”

While White has no children of her own — except for Pontiac, her golden retriever — Michaels says she’s the perfect Mother’s Day host because “she’s the mother of us all in comedy, so it will be a celebration of Betty White.”

Corey Haim Was Dating Daisy de la Hoya

March 11th, 2010

Former child star Corey Haim, who passed away yesterday morning, had eight film projects in the works and was dating a new love interest before he died.

That being Daisy de la Hoya of VH1’s Daisy of Love fame.

While it’s all relative, things appeared to be looking up for Haim, who famously battled substance abuse for years. He collapsed at home early Wednesday.

His recent love took to (what else) Twitter to express her public devastation: “I’m sooooooo devastated right now,” Daisy de la Hoya Tweeted this morning.

“This is the worst day ever I can’t believe this.”

Daisy de la Hoya and Corey Haim were a thing.

“Daisy loved The Lost Boys, and she always had a crush on Corey,” a source close to de la Hoya says. “Their first official date was two weeks ago, but they’d been hanging out a little while before that. Corey invited her to the Playboy Mansion.”

“Corey Feldman came, too.”

Daisy de la Hoya apparently wanted to help Haim with his struggles. “Daisy knew Corey was doing a lot of drugs, especially prescription meds,” the source says. “She thought he was kind and talented, and she wanted to rescue him.”

“She became his confidant over the last few weeks. He opened up to her a lot. They were having a lot of fun getting to know each other and seeing what would happen. Corey told Daisy she is a beautiful person with a beautiful heart.”

We hope Corey has finally found some inner peace and wish Daisy, along with all the actor’s family and friends, nothing but the best in this tragic time.

Robert Pattinson Lacks Confidence

March 11th, 2010

In Remember Me, Robert Pattinson plays Tyler. He’s a straight shooter, someone that’s confident in his ability to attract the opposite sex.

Considering his appearance, one would assume Pattinson possesses this same trait in real life. But one would be mistaken.

“When it comes to the opposite sex, I’m not as fully confident as [Tyler,” the actor tells Parade in its latest issue. “I don’t even remember the last time I asked someone out on a date… I’m much more self-conscious and not wanting to fail. So I tend to hold back.”

That may have something to do with the fact that he doesn’t need to, of course. Rob is dating Kristen Stewart.

Remember Me Co-Stars

As for Robert’s ultimate goal? He touched on that, and a few other topics, in the magazine interview:

On his personal ambition: You keep trying to make your name stand for something other than just like meaningless celebrity. It’s a difficult battle, but I think people like Johnny Depp have done that. He’s not judged by his public image, it’s just his acting that counts. To get to that place takes a lot of discipline and a lot of hiding.

On box office pressure: People always used to ask me about typecasting and I never had to really worry about it. You think people will judge you by your work. But the truth is, it’s about whether the film you’re in makes money or not.

On his past: I got beaten up by a lot of people when I was younger. I was a bit of an idiot, but I always thought the assaults were unprovoked. It was after I first started acting and I liked to behave like an actor, or how I thought an actor was supposed to be, and that apparently provoked a lot of people into hitting me.

Exclusive: Numb3rs’ Navi Rawat to Guest-Star on Castle

March 10th, 2010

  • Mar 9, 2010 11:56 PM ET
  • by
    Adam Bryant

Navi Rawat

Numb3rs star Navi Rawat has been tapped for a guest-starring role on ABC’s Castle, TVGuide.com has learned exclusively.

Check out photos of Rawat

Rawat will trade in her math textbooks to play Rachel Walters, a mummification expert who crosses paths with Beckett (Stana Katic) and Castle (Nathan Fillion) when the Natural History Museum’s assistant curator, Will Medina, is found murdered. Rachel informs the team that Will might have been cursed because he disturbed ancient Mayan tombs to create the museum’s newest exhibit.

Rachel, who could be a suspect in the murder, also catches Castle nosing through some coffins in the museum, prompting Becket to tease Castle about the curse. Castle refuses to believe her until he suffers his own near-death experience.

The episode, entitled “Wrapped Up in Death,” is slated to air April 5.

The timing couldn’t be better for Rawat, who has also had roles on 24 and The O.C. Her Numb3rs character will take a trip down the aisle as the CBS procedural wraps up its sixth (and possibly final) season Friday.
