Max Weinberg Not Out of Running for Conan’s TBS Show

April 30th, 2010

Max Weinberg, Conan O’Brien

Conan O’Brien’s rep says not so fast to a report that Max Weinberg will not return as O’Brien’s bandleader for his new TBS show.

Conan’s first post-Tonight Show interview: I wouldn’t have done what Jay did

According to the rep, nothing with the TBS show has been set because they’re too busy with O’Brien’s tour at the moment.

Early in the week, Al Kooper, a veteran musician who once played with Weinberg, told City Pages that Weinberg and O’Brien would part ways. “They let him go,” Kooper said. “This is a big transition, and they’re all signing new contracts and everything, so they replaced him, as far as I know.”

Conan O’Brien going to TBS

Weinberg served as O’Brien’s Late Night and Tonight Show bandleader, but opted to sit out O’Brien’s stand-up tour. A month before O’Brien’s departure from the Tonight Show, Weinberg premiered The Max Weinberg Big Band, and his official website says more tour dates will be announced.

Weinberg’s reps declined to comment.

Do you hope Weinberg and O’Brien stick together?

Dancing’s Maks: I’m Going to Keep Stripping

April 30th, 2010

Dancing with the Stars - Maksim Chmerkovskiy

Hi everyone!

How are you? Hope you had a great week!

I’ve been in New York the past few days, which has been nice. Right after the results show, we went to rehearsals for our team cha-cha. Then we flew out that night to New York because Erin has some stuff to do here. It’s actually kind of cool because it’s a change of scenery. We were traveling all over the place before the show started, but we’ve only been in L.A. since the show started. On the way here, Erin was like, “That was the longest I’ve gone without flying in about six years.” I’m staying at home. Erin saw my studios and she met Sleep! We have a big showcase dinner Friday evening in New Jersey and a lot of my students are going to be there. It’s kind of like their version of Monday night’s Dancing with the Stars where you basically show up and dance and bring your friends and family. Erin and I are going to go over and have people look at our quickstep and see what they think. If they like it, Len will have to like it!

So our samba: First, I want to say that Erin was really happy with the performance. She and I spoke about our performance afterward. It was the first dance she really liked. She was like, “I had a blast. It was so much fun.” I’ll be honest — we were hoping to get the encore, but it was what it was. But it was just really cool that she actually liked it because usually all the performances we do, she’s really nervous about them, but she really enjoyed dancing samba. It was a lot of fun and I think the crowd was crazy about it too.

Yes, I stripped. I had to do what I had to do! It was fitting with the song and the theme. I thought it was pushing the envelope, but it was cool. After Len said what he said, I was like, “Whatever.” Don’t call out my or any other pro’s choreography. That’s what we do. We wouldn’t have a job if we were bad at what we do. If we deliberately break rules — do a lift, break a hold — that’s one thing. But whole stripping thing is a matter of opinion. One person can like someone dancing in baggy pants and a jacket; the other person likes an open shirt and unbuttoned whatever. That’s personal opinion. I mean, you can criticize, but it shouldn’t alter the results. She danced a great samba. She did all the basic steps. Our dance was full of content. We had two stops when she ripped off my bowtie and the sleeves. The rest of the time, she danced non-stop. For Erin to not get rewarded was upsetting to me. She wasn’t upset at me. She was like, “Whatever.” I just don’t want her to get discouraged by the judges or have her discouraged with them.

Len’s explanation for why he was giving her a 7 — because I took off my shirt — also reinforces what I said last week about the judges not being constructive. That explanation has nothing to do with her as dancer, her performance, her leg action, her feet, etc. Whatever criticism they’ve given us the last few weeks about her arms and legs and whatnot, we did take into consideration and we did work on that. I was telling her about footwork and bounce action. We come back this week and he gives us a 7 because I took my shirt off? I’ve taken my shirt off in every season I’ve participated on Dancing. You didn’t penalize those partners. Why Erin and why now? There’s no constructive criticism. I don’t get it. It is what it is. I don’t want people to think I’m a hypocrite. Just because Carrie Ann and Bruno gave us 9s and Len gave us a 7, it doesn’t mean they’re great and he’s bad. I just want them all have some consistency and constructiveness with their criticism.

I also don’t understand how Len gave almost everyone a 7. That was mind-boggling. He gave Chad an 8, but everyone else got a 7. Anybody who watched the show, you tell me if of the seven couples, six danced the same way. Did Jake, Erin, Evan, Nicole, Pamela and Niecy dance the same way? Because going by Len’s scores, there’s no difference between them. You tell me if there’s no difference between them. I’m not going to go as far as talking about it; I just want to point out that Len gave six out of seven couples the same score.

Jake ended up leaving. Now that Kate’s gone, it’s come to the point of the competition where it gets interesting. Nicole is still a front-runner. Evan slipped a little bit; Erin went up a little bit. But all in all, everybody’s working hard and really wants it. For Jake to leave, it was just a matter of “somebody has to go.” Let’s just face the fact that every Tuesday, somebody has to leave. America voted and that’s it. It wasn’t about how little he did or how much he could’ve done more of. I think he certainly showed everybody that he really wanted it and he was really enthusiastic.

The swing marathon was a lot of fun. To tell you a secret, we didn’t really rehearse. We kind of winged it. We had a bit of a jive that kind of had swing base in it. Then we put in the lifts and literally went for it. I’m not going to lie — at the end, we were both exhausted and Erin couldn’t really move. I just started laughing because it was so funny to see her on the stage gasping for air. I looked around and saw that it was just us, and Nicole and Derek. It wasn’t like, “Good enough,” but I knew it was a good performance for something we did not plan. We had fun with it and that’s exactly what we did. I really enjoyed it. It was the first time I participated in a marathon. I think I’ve gotten the point of what the marathon is all about. It’s a little substance and a couple of crowd-pleasing drops and kicks and stuff. Since it was a swing, there are lifts and stuff, and you can’t really choreograph lifts. You teach them and then do it. It was a mambo last season, so that means that you’ll probably have to choreograph and put a little more thought into what you’re going to do. I have a feeling for some reason that Len wanted to send us off earlier. He did say Carrie Ann and Bruno disagreed with him on a few couples. Maybe he has a crush on Erin! Who knows?

There are reports out there that claim I said Len is too old to judge. I want to clarify that because it’s another case of my words being misconstrued. I didn’t say he’s too old to judge; I said that Len acts like he’s outdated with his opinion. It’s a little upsetting because in our business, everybody, including the judges and the coaches, is always growing, always learning. We’re in the business of innovating. If you get stale and you forget what it means to constantly improve and push dancing forward, then you get outdated with an “old” style of thinking, and you’re not qualified to criticize. You can still have an opinion; you don’t need to be a trained dancer to have an opinion. But if you want your opinion to be listened to, then it has to be the opinion of someone who is knowledgeable in what’s happening right now. I think that he needs to figure that out.

Sister of Bret Michaels Confirms: Things are Looking Up

April 30th, 2010

It’s too soon to tell if Bret Michaels will truly be able to resume performing next month, as a message on his website teased this week.

But the good news continues to pour forth about ailing rocker.

“He’s doing good. He’s not by any means out of the woods, but he is getting better every day,” said sister Michelle Sychak in an interview with the Omaha-based “Todd N Tyler Radio Empire” radio show on Wednesday.

Michelle added that her brother’s speech was coming along.

“Things are definitely looking up… he sounded good - as good as you can when your brain’s throbbing,” she said. “He seems very coherent to me and like he knew what he was saying… [He] does sound like Bret. Truth be told, I think he’ll outlive us all.”

Sychak said Bret is stable, but remains in the intensive care unit. As always, we wish him the very best.

Ricky Martin, Other Latin Celebs Agree: Arizona Sucks!

April 30th, 2010

If you’re a legal immigrant in Arizona, walking down the street with your child, you may now get detained by the police solely based on the color of your skin.

While it seems incomprehensible that such a law could be passed in the United States, it’s a sad fact. It’s also one that Shakira spoke out against yesterday and then actually headed down to Phoenix to discuss in person with the mayor and other locals.

Turns out, she isn’t the only celebrity (or American with a conscience) to object to this law. At last night’s Billboard Latin Music Awards, Ricky Martin said the ruling “makes no sense” and then went off on inequality in general:

“You are not alone. We are with you. Put a stop to discrimination. Put a stop to hate. Put a stop to racism… Long live love, long live peace.”

The singer himself came out of the (obvious) closet last month.

Ricky Martin Picture

A few others on hand also chimed in on the issue.

Said Latin Artist of the Year winner, Larry Hernandez: “It’s regrettable that they are discriminating against for the simple fact of looking Latino. It’s not fair. We have to say no to that law.”

Meanwhile, at a Phoenix press conference, Arizona native Linda Ronstadt stated: “Mexican-Americans are not going to take this lying down.”

It’s a contentious issue, one many Americans don’t understand: this is racial profiling at its worst. Imagine if all African-Americans were detained and searched simply because there are more blacks in the system on drug charges than whites. It’s the same idea.

Sound off with your thoughts now!

Jennifer Aniston: Best. Body. Ever.

April 29th, 2010

When in need of some Jennifer Aniston gossip on a slow week:

  1. Say she’s pregnant at least or has big “baby news”
  2. Say she’s secretly meeting up with / doing Brad Pitt
  3. (Or dating Gerard Butler / rom-com co-star du jour)
  4. Talk about her “revenge” body or some nonsense

Having bled 1-3 dry, it was time for #4 this week for a certain celebrity news tabloid. And why not. After losing a staggering SEVEN pounds, life is grand for Jen!

Her Best Body Yet

Jen’s easy plan - diet and exercise - may just work for you!

There’s little doubt that while recently shooting Just Go With It with Adam Sandler, Jen looked hotter than ever … or at least since the last time this story ran.

“She looked as if she’s lost an entire dress size,” a witness reports. “She was really petite and avoided the food on the craft services table. She has discipline.”

Thanks to self-control and a newfound philosophy on eating and exercise, Jen’s achieved her best body ever. Friends say that the actress is “totally ecstatic.”

Eh, she looks the same to us. Not that it’s a bad thing. Click to enlarge some Jennifer Aniston pictures from our archives and see if you see any change …

AnnaLynne McCord Goes Preppy, Bitchy, Crimped for Nylon

April 29th, 2010

Ashley Greene and Vanessa Hudgens are featured in the latest issue of Nylon.

But these aren’t the only young actresses the magazine focuses on for its Young Hollywood edition. AnnaLynne McCord also received her own spread in the publication, highlighted by a series of unusual looks on the 90210 star.

What did she think of them all? McCord dished as she posed:

Different AnnaLynne

“This preppy look with the red lip and the hat is the cutest one. It’s something I wouldn’t usually try.”

A Weird Look

“I love wearing my hair in a high ponytail. Ryan Murphy requested it for this scene on Nip/Tuck in which he wanted me to look bitchy.”

AnnaLynne in the 80s

“It’s not often that I get to do high fashion anymore. I really enjoyed that when I was modeling - as an actress, it’s usually like, ‘Keep her pretty and glam.’ I totally would rock a toned-down version of this look.”

You tell us, readers: Which of these looks is your favorite on McCord?

Holy Hairstyle, Jennifer Lopez!

April 29th, 2010

She may star in mundane romantic comedies, but Jennifer Lopez is nothing but an original when it comes to fashion.

Remember her iconic dress at the 2000 Grammy Awards? Or her catsuit on New Year’s Eve?

J. Lo has always pushed the style envelope, likely to distract from her floundering career. Case in point:

Look at how she wore her hair at the UK premiere of The Back-Up Plan. It’s smart PR, really. Now people will talk about that thing on her head instead of that awful movie on the screen…

J. Lo Hair

What do you think of J. Lo’s hair?

We can’t imagine anyone would wish to copy this hairstyle, but what do you think of Lopez’s dress in the photos below? You can find it, and other celebrity fashion ideas, in our new THG store!

Jenna Jameson Drug Test Clean; Tito Ortiz Lying?

April 29th, 2010

Jenna Jameson claims Tito Ortiz is full of it when accusing her of being high on OxyContin during their altercation Monday - because she passed a drug test.

One day after the domestic incident that left Tito Ortiz arrested for assault, the test, administered by American Toxicology Inc. in Las Vegas, was negative.

The porn queen’s system had no trace of 10 drugs she was screened for - including cocaine, weed, meth and Oxycodone, a major ingredient of OxyContin.

After his arrest, Tito claimed the incident was sparked by Jameson’s addiction to OxyContin, and that she fell over in the tub. Jenna vehemently denies this.

Now, after receiving the results of the test, Jenna is reaffirming her claim that she was attacked: “I am definitely not addicted to OxyContin or any drug.”

Tito Ortiz and Jenna Jameson Picture

Is Tito just trying to save his a$$ by slandering Jenna?

Reports suggest Ortiz threw Jameson in the tub. Tito denies this, suggesting she took a nasty spill herself. Is he lying, or is the truth somewhere in between?

Jenna’s attorney, Ronald Richards, said the following:

“The lab tests clearly exonerate Jenna Jameson of any hint, iota, or suggestion that she ingested or was under the influence of any controlled substances.”

“Statements made by anyone to the contrary are completely impeached by the results from this prestigious testing facility.” So where do we go from here?

Despite two contradictory statements Jenna made in the hours after the incident, clean test results cast some doubt on Ortiz’s theory that Jenna relapsed.

Who do you believe?
