Stephen Baldwin has sued Kevin Costner over securities fraud and misrepresentation, claiming that the Dances with Wolves star tricked him into selling shares of a company that has technology to separate oil from water, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

In a lawsuit filed in Louisiana federal court with Spyridon Contogouris, Baldwin says that Costner and his business partners made a lucrative deal with BP for his oil-filtration system, then bought out Baldwin’s and Contogouris’ shares while keeping them in the dark about the sale to BP.

Lindsay Lohan Sued, Accused of Premeditated Fraud

June 30th, 2010

She’ll probably claim she was set up, or they’re not her shoes, or Eleonore Lieven did it, or some such nonsense, but a lawsuit alleges Lindsay Lohan concocted a plan to defraud an L.A. boutique out of thousands of dollars in … shoes.

Church, which sells expensive clothes, jewelry, and accessories, claims the train wreck shopped at the store between November 2009-February 2010.

According to the suit, Lindsay Lohan racked up a bill of $17,060.83 and convinced the owners that her business manager would be paying the bill.

The business manager paid a grand total of $180.

The lawsuit, which will be filed in L.A. County Superior Court, alleges LiLo “had no intention of causing her business manager to pay the entire balance.”

Amusingly, and unfortunately for the plaintiffs, the suit claims the owners relied on her “well known status as a movie actress with substantial income.”

Dancing’s Maks: I’m Going to Keep Stripping

April 30th, 2010

Dancing with the Stars - Maksim Chmerkovskiy

Hi everyone!

How are you? Hope you had a great week!

I’ve been in New York the past few days, which has been nice. Right after the results show, we went to rehearsals for our team cha-cha. Then we flew out that night to New York because Erin has some stuff to do here. It’s actually kind of cool because it’s a change of scenery. We were traveling all over the place before the show started, but we’ve only been in L.A. since the show started. On the way here, Erin was like, “That was the longest I’ve gone without flying in about six years.” I’m staying at home. Erin saw my studios and she met Sleep! We have a big showcase dinner Friday evening in New Jersey and a lot of my students are going to be there. It’s kind of like their version of Monday night’s Dancing with the Stars where you basically show up and dance and bring your friends and family. Erin and I are going to go over and have people look at our quickstep and see what they think. If they like it, Len will have to like it!

So our samba: First, I want to say that Erin was really happy with the performance. She and I spoke about our performance afterward. It was the first dance she really liked. She was like, “I had a blast. It was so much fun.” I’ll be honest — we were hoping to get the encore, but it was what it was. But it was just really cool that she actually liked it because usually all the performances we do, she’s really nervous about them, but she really enjoyed dancing samba. It was a lot of fun and I think the crowd was crazy about it too.

Yes, I stripped. I had to do what I had to do! It was fitting with the song and the theme. I thought it was pushing the envelope, but it was cool. After Len said what he said, I was like, “Whatever.” Don’t call out my or any other pro’s choreography. That’s what we do. We wouldn’t have a job if we were bad at what we do. If we deliberately break rules — do a lift, break a hold — that’s one thing. But whole stripping thing is a matter of opinion. One person can like someone dancing in baggy pants and a jacket; the other person likes an open shirt and unbuttoned whatever. That’s personal opinion. I mean, you can criticize, but it shouldn’t alter the results. She danced a great samba. She did all the basic steps. Our dance was full of content. We had two stops when she ripped off my bowtie and the sleeves. The rest of the time, she danced non-stop. For Erin to not get rewarded was upsetting to me. She wasn’t upset at me. She was like, “Whatever.” I just don’t want her to get discouraged by the judges or have her discouraged with them.

Len’s explanation for why he was giving her a 7 — because I took off my shirt — also reinforces what I said last week about the judges not being constructive. That explanation has nothing to do with her as dancer, her performance, her leg action, her feet, etc. Whatever criticism they’ve given us the last few weeks about her arms and legs and whatnot, we did take into consideration and we did work on that. I was telling her about footwork and bounce action. We come back this week and he gives us a 7 because I took my shirt off? I’ve taken my shirt off in every season I’ve participated on Dancing. You didn’t penalize those partners. Why Erin and why now? There’s no constructive criticism. I don’t get it. It is what it is. I don’t want people to think I’m a hypocrite. Just because Carrie Ann and Bruno gave us 9s and Len gave us a 7, it doesn’t mean they’re great and he’s bad. I just want them all have some consistency and constructiveness with their criticism.

I also don’t understand how Len gave almost everyone a 7. That was mind-boggling. He gave Chad an 8, but everyone else got a 7. Anybody who watched the show, you tell me if of the seven couples, six danced the same way. Did Jake, Erin, Evan, Nicole, Pamela and Niecy dance the same way? Because going by Len’s scores, there’s no difference between them. You tell me if there’s no difference between them. I’m not going to go as far as talking about it; I just want to point out that Len gave six out of seven couples the same score.

Jake ended up leaving. Now that Kate’s gone, it’s come to the point of the competition where it gets interesting. Nicole is still a front-runner. Evan slipped a little bit; Erin went up a little bit. But all in all, everybody’s working hard and really wants it. For Jake to leave, it was just a matter of “somebody has to go.” Let’s just face the fact that every Tuesday, somebody has to leave. America voted and that’s it. It wasn’t about how little he did or how much he could’ve done more of. I think he certainly showed everybody that he really wanted it and he was really enthusiastic.

The swing marathon was a lot of fun. To tell you a secret, we didn’t really rehearse. We kind of winged it. We had a bit of a jive that kind of had swing base in it. Then we put in the lifts and literally went for it. I’m not going to lie — at the end, we were both exhausted and Erin couldn’t really move. I just started laughing because it was so funny to see her on the stage gasping for air. I looked around and saw that it was just us, and Nicole and Derek. It wasn’t like, “Good enough,” but I knew it was a good performance for something we did not plan. We had fun with it and that’s exactly what we did. I really enjoyed it. It was the first time I participated in a marathon. I think I’ve gotten the point of what the marathon is all about. It’s a little substance and a couple of crowd-pleasing drops and kicks and stuff. Since it was a swing, there are lifts and stuff, and you can’t really choreograph lifts. You teach them and then do it. It was a mambo last season, so that means that you’ll probably have to choreograph and put a little more thought into what you’re going to do. I have a feeling for some reason that Len wanted to send us off earlier. He did say Carrie Ann and Bruno disagreed with him on a few couples. Maybe he has a crush on Erin! Who knows?

There are reports out there that claim I said Len is too old to judge. I want to clarify that because it’s another case of my words being misconstrued. I didn’t say he’s too old to judge; I said that Len acts like he’s outdated with his opinion. It’s a little upsetting because in our business, everybody, including the judges and the coaches, is always growing, always learning. We’re in the business of innovating. If you get stale and you forget what it means to constantly improve and push dancing forward, then you get outdated with an “old” style of thinking, and you’re not qualified to criticize. You can still have an opinion; you don’t need to be a trained dancer to have an opinion. But if you want your opinion to be listened to, then it has to be the opinion of someone who is knowledgeable in what’s happening right now. I think that he needs to figure that out.

Mike "The Situation" Sorrentino: "I’m the Reality King"

Jersey Shore

While Jersey Shore was MTV’s recent breakout show, (its finale scored a record-breaking 4.8 million viewers), Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino certainly was the series’ breakout star. He made a name for himself, literally, from the first episode with his third-person talk, “creeping” on housemate Sammi, and coining his daily routine — “GTL” (gym, tan, laundry). TVGuide.com spoke with him about how the show, and his body, is all real, what’s next for him, and more.

A guide to our favorite Jersey Shore slang

TVGuide.com: How real was Jersey Shore?
Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino: Nothing was planned; everything is real. Everybody’s friends on the show and that’s why it’s so real. We’re actually close in real life, everybody has their own relationships, who likes who and who really likes somebody, and that’s why it’s so good on the show.

TVGuide.com: We saw a lot of partying, but did you guys ever stay in?
Situation: I’m sure you saw we went to the bowling alley, there’s a time when we went to a movie theater. There are times to go out and then there’s time to stay in. You have to pick and choose your battles. You can’t go out every night because if you do go out every night you’re not really going to look that good — it takes a little toll on you.

TVGuide.com: Speaking of a toll on your body, do you use steroids?
Situation: No way. I’m 100 percent natural. I just have very good genetics. I’ve had a six-pack since I was little, and even if I miss the gym, the six-pack is always there.

Fist Pump!: Jersey Shore returning for Season 2

TVGuide.com: Were you surprised at how tense the Season 1 reunion was?
Situation: No, I wasn’t surprised at all. Me and [Ronnie] are friends but at the same time Sam is his girl. There’s always going to be tension there between me and him, I mean we are friends first, but that’s my good friend and that’s his girl, and I had hooked up with his girl first.

TVGuide.com: Sammi walked out on the reunion, so are she and him really over?
Situation: I believe they broke up that day of the reunion. I think they got back together but then I think they recently broke up again. That’s really none of my business, their relationship; my business is The Situation.

TVGuide.com: So how’s The Situation’s love life?
Situation: Right now I take life moment by moment, I’m not really too worried about pointing out which girl. I’m focused on my career and if I see something that I like, I’ll grab it up.

The Situation “very excited” for Season 2 of Jersey Shore

TVGuide.com: What’s next for you?
Situation: There are so many things coming out for myself. I’m going to be at the Super Bowl and that’s pretty big for me. There’s a lot of things in the works for me; you never know, you might see a workout video, you might see a book. Right now I’m just taking over the reality world on this first season so I guess you could say I’m like the reality king. After that, maybe one or two more seasons max — but once you do something like that and you’re on top, you do want to move on and graduate to the next level. I’d like to do some acting and maybe even some TV or film but we’ll see.

Spartacus’ Lucy Lawless: Sex Scenes Mean Business

Spartacus: Blood and Sand, Lucy Lawless

The swords and sandals are about the only similarities between Spartacus: Blood and Sand and Xena: Warrior Princess, Lucy Lawless says.

“They’re so different from each other in almost every way,” she tells TVGuide.com. “From the technology, the fight sequences, the sex scenes.”

Ah, yes, the sex scenes. In addition to the copious amounts of blood spilled on-screen, the Starz ancient Rome epic features boundary-pushing sex scenes that are about as explicit as you can get on television. Lawless, who had not done nudity prior to Spartacus, is at the center of a number of them as manipulative man-eater Lucretia.

Spartacus: Blood and Sand’s Erin Cummings: Fight scenes are fun!

“When you talk about it, it sounds like you’re doing a lot of sex scenes, but I don’t feel like I do that much,” she says. “My concern was that it fit with the story and that there wasn’t any gratuitous sex in this, and it doesn’t really trouble me as long as it’s relevant to the scene. It’s part of the story that they’re around in various states of undress. Human beings have always had sex, and a lot of business got done during these transactions. That’s what the sex is about.”

For Lucretia, the business of sex is to provide her husband, gladiator school owner Batiatus (John Hannah), with an heir — any which way she can, including sleeping with the gladiators at the camp. “She begins, what I think, is quite an abusive relationship with the chief gladiator, the champion, hoping that he might impregnate her,” Lawless says. “She’s desperate.”

Lucretia’s deceitfulness is what makes her the polar opposite of Xena, whose butt-kicking justice made her a feminist icon in the late 1990s. “Lucretia’s purely reactive. Time and time again, things go against her and she’s always disappointed, so she has to claw her way back to success,” she says. “She’s a brilliant liar. She has to be. There is no one who’s going to look after her. She doesn’t have a function of her own. If something happens to her husband, whom she loves, she’s lost. Everything in ancient Rome is about status. She’s just the ultimate survivor.”

Spartacus sets record ratings for Starz

Another difference between Lucretia and Xena? As Lucretia, Lawless doesn’t partake in the gruesome battle royale scenes, which, she admits, are not for the faint of heart. But there is a little something for everyone in the show, she says, with its mix of stylized action scenes and dramatic storytelling. Lawless’ husband, Robert Tapert, who produced Xena, created Spartacus with that mass appeal in mind after watching the similarly themed Rome and the big-screen hit 300. “When we watched 300, he went, ‘Oh my God, that’s the way that I can produce my vision on a TV schedule and a TV budget,’” she says.

The show shoots in Lawless’ native New Zealand, where she will return in April to begin production on Season 2. In a huge vote of confidence, Starz renewed the series a month before its January premiere. It wasn’t for naught — the series premiered to a record 3.3 million viewers with DVR and encore viewings tabulated.

“It’s really wonderful. I think Starz was really courageous to hop onboard this train,” Lawless says. “This is a wild ride and very intense to shoot. And we have so much good stuff coming up. You get to see that the women are more vicious than the men. My lover, Crixus [played by Manu Bennett], is falling in love with my handmaiden, and it is good. Things get very hot and heavy. And very sticky.”

Spartacus airs Fridays at 10/9c on Starz.
