Lindsay Lohan: Drinking or Not?

June 21st, 2010

When Lindsay Lohan’s SCRAM ankle monitor went off, we assumed she was drinking or tampering with it. Yet her lawyer swears a test proves she was clean.

On the flip side, Judge Marsha Revel revoked Lindsay’s bail immediately, issued a bench warrant and set the actress/train wreck’s bail at another $100,000.

Why would she do that if Lohan were so clean?

The legitimacy of Lindsay’s latest test, cited by her lawyer as proof that she is “doing great at being clean and sober,” has obviously drawn some skepticism.

Yesterday, Radar Online reported that Lindsay’s blood-alcohol level was between .03-.04 when her ankle monitor went off at a post-MTV Movie Awards bash.

Under the legal limit, absolutely. But if that’s true, she also had a drink or two, in violation of the court’s order - and how would she then pass a urinalysis?

Time.

It’s possible, even likely, that she would have a .00 BAC the morning after drinking, even relatively early. You sober up, alcohol leaves your system. Boom.

Says Kathleen Brown of the Alcohol Monitoring Services:

“That is precisely the reason judges order 24/7 alcohol monitoring, and the reason that this judge ordered both random drug tests and SCRAM in this case.”

“Alcohol metabolizes quickly, and is very difficult to catch in random tests. Random tests are good at [detecting] drugs, as residual indicators last longer.”

So if the much-touted test was performed even a few hours after the alleged violation, it might show a perfectly clean Lindsay Lohan. The SCRAM don’t lie.

Brown also notes that in the case of Lindsay Lohan, “drug and alcohol testing were not conditions of probation. They were conditions of the court for bond.”

“The court is managing the drug and alcohol testing,” but as they pertain to her previous legal woes, “results are not determinant of probation violations.”

We just wonder what bad excuse Lindsay will use.

Charlie Sheen Will Plead Guilty, May Serve Jail Time in Assault Case

May 28th, 2010

Charlie Sheen is preparing to plead guilty to a misdemeanor charge stemming from his Christmas assault on wife Brooke Mueller - but will he go to jail?

As part of a plea deal with the Colorado District Attorney’s office, Charlie may be facing as many as 45 days in the slammer in Aspen’s Pitkin County Jail.

In exchange for Sheen’s plea, a felony menacing charge will be dropped.

Sheen’s next court appearance is set for June 7, where his plea deal can be entered and his trial in the case (currently set for July 21) therefor canceled.

As for what his punishment will be, sources connected with the case say the D.A. in Aspen and Charlie’s lawyers have hammered out four scenarios …

Brooke and Charlie Photo

Charlie Sheen’s assault on Brooke Mueller will result in a legal reprimand next week. But the actor is reportedly unsure which of the below scenarios he is willing to accept.

  1. Charlie pleads guilty to a misdemeanor and serve 30 days in jail. He enters the plea June 7 and immediately begins serving time. With good behavior, it could truncate to 17 days. After that stint, the case is closed. No probation.
  2. Charlie pleads guilty to a misdemeanor and receives no jail time, but is placed on two years probation. Sounds great, but if the star slips up, the judge could throw the book at him and he could be facing far more than 30 days in jail.
  3. Charlie receives “deferred prosecution,” i.e. the case will not go forward but the Two and a Half Men star must agree to various conditions, like not breaking the law. After a certain period of compliance, the matter would be expunged.
  4. Go to trial. Sheen is reportedly upset at the Tito Ortiz case, in which the UFC star was not prosecuted, even after allegations similar to those made against Sheen. This would be a huge roll of the dice, because losing ensures jail time.

It’s all in his hands at this point, so stay tuned.

Is Michael Trucco More Than the Other Guy in Castle’s Love Triangle?

May 10th, 2010

Castle

Michael Trucco knows a thing or two about being “that guy” in a TV love triangle.

Castle’s Stana Katic: Beckett’s ready to tango with new love interest

Trucco’s Samuel Anders came between romantic leads Kara “Starbuck” Thrace (Katee Sackhoff) and Lee “Apollo” Adama (Jamie Bamber) on Battlestar Galactica. Now on Castle, Trucco plays Detective Tom Demming, an increasingly powerful wedge between Rick Castle (Nathan Fillion) and Detective Beckett (Stana Katic).

But Trucco tells TVGuide.com there’s more to his role on Castle than creating another obstacle to a Castle-Beckett pairing. “It’s an interesting plot device to enter in a third wheel — it always helps raise the stakes for all parties involved. But often, those characters can be one-dimensional,” Trucco says. “What I like about Demming is he’s actually a good guy. There’s some sincerity in this character and I think he’s genuine in his feelings for Beckett.

“He checks with Castle first,” Trucco continues, recalling one of his character’s first scenes. “It’s a guy thing. He just wanted to make sure he’s not poaching or intruding on anybody’s territory. I thought that was indicative of the character. I like that there’s nothing subversive. It’s always fun to play that guy, but there’s something inherently challenging in trying to find the humanity in a character and bring a reality to it.”

Trucco, 39, also says his four-episode arc is paced in a way that makes it easier for viewers to accept his character. “I think that was smart play by the producers and writers to not force a new character down the audience’s throat,” he says. “They’re clever about it. The character’s a robbery detective and this show’s about a homicide detective. We all work in the same precinct, so if there’s a robbery aspect to the crime, they bring me in. They’re respecting their boundaries.”

In Monday’s episode (10/9c on ABC), however, a robbery-homicide pulls Demming back into the mix, setting off a heated battle between him and Castle to crack the case first — and win Beckett’s attention.

“There’s no real animosity; we haven’t played these characters at each other’s throats, but there’s clearly a sense of competition that’s starting to ramp up,” Trucco says. “We’re both trying to interject our knowledge into this case, and he’s got some great ideas and I’ve got some great ideas. We both want to be teacher’s pet.”

Will Castle’s explosive cliff-hanger create sparks for Castle and Beckett?

And that competitive drive could be what Castle has needed all along, especially when he sees Demming and Beckett kiss. “Demming is willing to step up and make the move [for Beckett],” Trucco says. “There’s been some reticence by Castle to seal the deal.

Polanski Breaks Silence: I’m Being Served "On a Platter to the Media"

May 3rd, 2010

Roman Polanski

Oscar-winning filmmaker Roman Polanski said Sunday that he is being treated unfairly and that the U.S. is demanding his extradition from Switzerland in order to serve him “on a platter to the media,” reports The Associated Press.

Polanski’s latest appeal rejected

“I have had my share of dramas and joys, as we all have, and I am not going to try to ask you to pity my lot in life,” Polanski said, breaking his months-long silence. “I ask only to be treated fairly like anyone else.”

The 76-year old director of Chinatown and The Pianist accused Los Angeles County District Attorney Steve Cooley, who is running for California attorney general, of using the case for publicity. The district attorney’s spokeswoman, Sandi Gibbons, said the D.A.’s office “will withhold comment until the Swiss make a decision on his fugitive status.”

Polanski’s victim wants case dismissed

Polanski’s most recent bid to have his case reviewed by a special counsel or to be sentenced in his absence was rejected last month by a California appeals court. Swiss officials say the Justice Ministry will not rush into a decision for extradition.

Polanski, whose most recent film is The Ghost Writer, was placed under house arrest at his chalet in Gstaad in November 2009. He was arrested Sept. 26 by Swiss authorities and is wanted by U.S. authorities for having sex with a 13-year-old girl in 1977. He fled the United States in 1978 for France after pleading guilty to one count of unlawful sexual intercourse with the girl.
