There’s Nothing Strange About an Addiction to My Strange Addiction

My Strange Addiction (Sundays, 10/9c, TLC) is maybe the most entertaining freak show on television now, and definitely the most guilt-free one.

While shows such as Celebrity Rehab, Intervention and Hoarders enlist subjects whose participation is possibly clouded (or motivated) by substance or mental illness, My Strange Addiction is more of a platform for reasonably coherent people to share their weirdness (since they are, after all, signing up for a show that has the word “strange” in its title).

My Strange Addiction embraces those who embrace their own eccentricities.

And, boy, are they eccentric. TLC will air the fifth and sixth episodes of the show’s second season on Sunday, and by then we will have been treated to snapshots of the lives of people who are “addicted” to the likes of cycling, eating dryer sheets, chomping rocks and carrying around a pillow…

It’s a boy for singer Rod Stewart and wife Penny Lancaster Stewart.

Aiden was born Wednesday, weighing in at 7 pounds, 12 ounces. “Mother and baby are healthy and blissfully happy,” a rep for the couple told People.

Dr. Drew Lands Prime-Time Series on HLN

Dr. Drew Pinsky will have his own prime-show show on HLN, The Associated Press reports.

Airing weeknights, the talk show will focus on news stories that fit into the 52-year-old’s area of expertise: addiction. It will premiere in the spring.

Adult Film Studio Puts Mindy McCready Sex Tape on Hold

Adult studio Vivid Entertainment has put a temporary hold on the distribution of a Mindy McCready sex tape in order to take the “legal steps to prove it has the right to distribute it.”

Attorney: Mindy McCready “not aware” of sex tape release

Vivid founder/co-chairman Steven Hirsch remains confident that the studio will distribute Mindy McCready, Baseball Mistress, which features the country singer engaging in sexual acts and talking about former sexual partners, including baseball great Roger Clemens, according to the company’s news release about the film.

“We’ve decided to take a little extra time to study all of our documentation and other clearances before we proceed,” Hirsch said of the film, which was scheduled to go on sale April 19. “I want a chance to review the correspondence from Mindy’s attorney, Adam Dread, and to prepare a proper response to the letter he has sent to us.”

Dread said last week that McCready is not on board with the sex tape, saying that they “are not aware of the production or release of the alleged film.” The attorney also threatened legal action and sent a cease-and-desist letter to Hirsch.

McCready recently appeared on Celebrity Rehab and released her first studio album since 2002, I’m Still Here, two weeks ago.

Dr. Drew: I’ll Stop When Addiction Stops

As the star of three seasons of Celebrity Rehab, Dr. Drew Pinsky knows he might sound hypocritical when he tells people not to fixate on celebrities’ lives.

“I understand that people interpret this as hypocritical, but what I mean to say is the media is presenting really disturbed people in desperate straits, and we as consumers are just lapping it up. And that says something about us, not about them,” Pinsky told TVGuide.com. “I’m also the person treating addiction saying, ‘Don’t do drugs.’ But I’ve got to go to where the problem is to address it. When it stops, I’ll stop — happily.”

The VH1 series (Thursdays, 10/9c) follows several celebrities as they undergo treatment for drug and alcohol abuse, under the watchful eyes of Pinksy, a camera crew and the audience at home. Participants in the program/show include Tom Sizemore, Heidi Fleiss and Mackenzie Phillips, as well as Dennis Rodman.
