Lin Yu Chun Speaks Out: Just Be Yourself!

April 11th, 2010

Almost a year to the day after Susan Boyle burst on to the global scene, Lin Yu Chun has taken the baton as the Next, Great, Unexpected Singer to Be Discovered on a Reality Show.

The 24-year old from Taiwan auditioned for that nation’s version of American Idol with a rendition of “I Will Always Love You” that you need to hear to believe.

Let’s just say its a whole lot better than anything Whitney Houston sings these days.

After receiving such acclaim for his performance, Chun spoke to The Associated Press about his life:

“I now have more confidence in pursuing a singing career. You don’t have to be a good-looking man or woman to succeed. Just be yourself and try your best.”

Lin said he suffered from a lack of self-esteem growing up because “being fat draws a lot of mockery in our society.

However, those difficult times helped the aspiring singer hone his talent: to cope with taunts from peers, Chun locked himself in his room and sang along to hits by Celine Dion and Mariah Carey.

But he loved Houston’s take on the famous Dolly Parton classic the best: “I played it again and again even though my parents couldn’t stand it anymore and asked me to stop,” Lin said of the single that’s made him famous.

His audition has already earned over 1.3 million views on YouTube and if Chun wins the competition, he’ll pocket a well-deserved $1 million. Go get ‘em, Lin!

American Idol Exit Interview: Didi Benami

April 2nd, 2010

Didi Benami’s journey came to an end on American Idol this week.

The 23-year-old won praise (albeit without a judges’ save) from the show’s panel on Wednesday night and moved many to tears on her road to stardom.

While she fell short, Didi Benami has a lot to be proud of, and despite the disappointment, she’s not feeling distraught, just looking forward to what’s next.

Below are excerpts from an interview she did with USA Today …

On the scrutiny she faced: “I was not prepared for that. I was not an avid American Idol watcher, so I didn’t know what to expect. Honestly, I was just being myself, and I did stuff that meant something to me and had a good time.”

On making the top 10: I’m relieved. I get to go on tour. I don’t have to work as a waitress anymore. I get to do what I love. It’s a blessing. It’s a relief to know I’ll be able to make a living doing what I love for the summer, hopefully longer.”

Didi Benami on Idol

On wearing her heart on her sleeve: “[Crying] has definitely been therapeutic for me, and I do it as a release. It’s funny because the camera was always catching me when I’m emotional. And I’m not always that emotional.”

On losing her way, or so Kara said: “I don’t feel like I lost my way. I feel like they wanted me to do something specific every week, and I went out on a limb several weeks and did different things. And they weren’t expecting it.”

On her moment with Siobhan Magnus after being ousted: “Siobhan is a unique, amazing person. I love her very much. She’s a sweetheart. She ended up being my roommate the first week. I met her the first day of Hollywood Week.”

On the judges’ save that wasn’t: “It was tough. The whole crowd was chanting, and that was pretty cool. Ultimately, I kind of felt like I was going home, but I thought it would be cool if they exercised the option to let me stay.”

On her competition’s reaction: “Crystal Bowersox and Siobhan and I are really close. Crystal came down and stayed with me last night. They’re amazing, wonderful people. It’s hard when you meet other artists you really connect with.”

Tareq and Michaele Salahi Will Actually Star on The Real Housewives of D.C.

March 27th, 2010

Sorry, Sarah Palin.

Incredibly, you’re NOT the most pathetic person to land a new reality show this month.

Tareq and Michaele Salahi - the absolute morons who crashed a party at the White House last year - won’t simply star in The Real Housewives of D.C.; the awful couple will be a focal point of the Bravo program.

Michaele and Tareq Salahi

The Salahis actually averted the Secret Service and shook hands with President Barack Obama, first lady Michelle Obama, Vice President Joe Biden and many others in November 2008. Reportedly, the pair was being filmed as part of its audition for this series when the crashing took place.

A dozen episodes of the first season have been shot and are slated to premiere in July, according to The Daily Beast. Paris Hilton’s aunts and Kelsey Grammer’s wife will also star on the show.

Looks like the competition for This Year’s Sign of the Apocalypse is over before it began.

American Idol - Alex Lambert

Shocked and angry American Idol fans apparently weren’t the only ones cursing during Thursday’s elimination show.

Read our American Idol recaps

Near the end of the show’s broadcast, when host Ryan Seacrest revealed that 19-year-old Alex Lambert would be staying in the competition over Tyler Grady, four seconds of audio were censored. The apparent cause: Lambert’s celebration contained some choice words not suitable for television.

A rep for the Fox reality series told TVGuide.com “that the audio was dropped by broadcast standards due to language.”

In addition to Grady, America’s votes eliminated Ashley Rodriguez, Janell Wheeler and Joe Munoz.

Biggest Loser’s Migdalia Reveals the Best Advice She Got from Trainers

The Biggest Loser, Migdalia

Biggest Loser’s Green Team may have began the competition strong by winning Week 1’s task, but they soon faced challenge after challenge. By the third week, Migdalia Sebren, 28, walked out of the gym — and almost the show — when Jillian pushed her beyond her emotional limits. A week later, Migdalia and her mother Miggy were hit with a 2-pound disadvantage. Even without that hit, their meager weight loss that week — Migdalia shed 4 pounds and Miggy only 1 — would have put them at risk for elimination anyway.

“We had a rough week and it wasn’t so much about the 2 pounds, it was the comments that were thrown at us,” Migdalia tells TVGuide.com.

Biggest Loser’s Maria defends son: “You don’t lose 10 pounds in a week being lazy”

Migdalia pleaded with her fellow contestants to vote her out and let her mom stay. They listened. Today, Migdalia is down about 60 pounds from her starting weight of 240. The homemaker says she’s “training for a half marathon in March” and is “doing great.”

She says the key to continuing her progress is to make exercise enjoyable. “I don’t go into a workout just because I have to… I go do things I like to do and have fun with it.”

Sebren has also started eating healthier, incorporating foods like spinach, carrots, and her favorite new meal, a healthy version of stuffed chicken.

Although Migdalia’s time on the ranch was somewhat limited, she credits trainers Bob Harper and Jillian Michaels for teaching one important lesson: “Keep moving. Not only from workouts, but things in life; [don't] let it get on you.”
