Gary Coleman Cause of Death Revealed: Fall

June 15th, 2010

As his ex-wife, manager, family members and possible mystery heir grapple for control of his estate, Gary Coleman’ official cause of death has been released.

According to the death certificate, obtained by ET, Coleman’s cause of death is listed simply as a “Fall.” The actor was hospitalized after a fall at home in May.

Other significant conditions are listed as “Chronic renal failure and complications.”

Gary had kidney problems all his life, and the aggressive treatment they required contributed to him reaching his adult height of 4′8″ at the age of just 14.

The manner of death is recorded as “Accident.” Some, including former manager Dion Mial, have suggested foul play was involved, but that looks unlikely.

R.I.P. Gary Coleman (1968-2010).

Interestingly, Coleman’s awful ex-wife, Shannon Price, is listed as his spouse, even though they never remarried after divorcing, then reconciling in 2008.

She is also listed as the “informant,” given that she placed the Gary Coleman 911 call. She didn’t care to drive Gary to the hospital, but hey, she called.

The autopsy was completed amid controversy surrounding his ex. If you saw Shannon Price in the Cause of Death box, would you have been shocked?

In control of Gary’s estate for now, despite another will leaving it all to Anna Gray, Price plans to scatter his ashes around trains. He really liked trains.

Gary Coleman Funeral on Hold as Shannon Price Feuds with Actor’s Family Over Remains

June 5th, 2010

With the late actor’s ex-wife Shannon Price and his parents feuding over custody of his body, Gary Coleman will not be laid to rest this weekend as planned.

Sue and Willie Coleman, estranged from the Diff’rent Strokes star at the time of his death, and Price, who secretly divorced Coleman in 2008, are at odds.

Legally authorized to make medical decisions on Gary’s behalf despite their legal split, Shannon Price told doctors to pull the plug in Coleman last Friday.

She also placed the Gary Coleman 911 call two days earlier, when the star fell and suffered severe brain trauma that ultimately landed him on life support.

Beginning with the 911 call, her behavior over the past week was odd. In an interview, she adamantly denied pushing Gary - an accusation no one made.

Price is now planning his funeral, but the Colemans plan to file for legal control over their son’s remains, which they want sent to his hometown, Zion, Ill.

Gary Coleman and Shannon Price wed in 2007, then divorced in 2008.

“The Colemans don’t want to fight with anyone,” their lawyer said, adding that no valid will has surfaced yet. “They just want to bring their son home.”

Gary and his parents’ estrangement dates back to a 1989 lawsuit, in which he accused them of stealing a large portion of his fortune as a child star.

Gary’s agent, Sheila Erickson, counters that “It’s clear that [Shannon Price] is the one that Gary wants to represent him, as she did in the hospital.

“He didn’t mention, at any time, his parents.”

And it gets even more complicated. “No one’s come forward with what appears to be a valid will,” attorney Randy Kester told the Salt Lake Tribune.

“He had an old trust prepared, by whom I don’t know. Every copy I had seen was unsigned. He simply wouldn’t take the time to go and get that done.”

Gary Coleman on Life Support, Unconscious After Suffering Brain Hemorrhage

May 28th, 2010

The manager of Gary Coleman is asking for our “thoughts and prayers” as the former child star, now 42, is on life support after suffering a brain hemorrhage.

He suffered the injury in his Utah home on Wednesday. Coleman was hospitalized for treatment, his manager John Alcantar said, and was in critical condition.

Things took a turn for the worse, though, when Coleman was transferred to the ICU at Utah Valley Regional Medical Center for further tests and treatment:

“As of May 27, Mr. Coleman was conscious and lucid. By early afternoon, Mr. Coleman was slipping in and out of consciousness and his condition worsened.

“We are very saddened to announce that since mid-afternoon, Mountain Time, on May 27, 2010, Mr. Coleman has been unconscious and on life support.”

Alcantar says that despite Coleman’s recent history of health problems and personal issues, “he always has had fond memories of being an entertainer.”

“He appreciates his fans for all their support. At this critical moment, we can only ask for thoughts and prayers for Gary to make a speedy, full recovery.”

If it’s any consolation, Bret Michaels also suffered a brain hemorrhage and bounced back from similarly long odds. Here’s hoping Coleman can do the same.
