Miley Cyrus Bound for Dancing with the Stars, Kentucky, London

May 18th, 2010

With a new album on the way, fans can look forward to more Miley Cyrus than usual over the next few weeks.

When and where is this singer coming to a TV screen, city or area near you? We’ve got the deets…

  • Miley will perform “Cant Be Tamed” on tonight’s Dancing with the Stars result show. Sources say: “Miley wants to make a big splash, so she’s put a lot of work into this performance.”
  • Later this week, she’ll visit Kentucky on behalf of Blessings in a Backpack, a charity that provides hungry children with packs full of sustenance. “The kids don’t even know she’s coming yet,” said an insider. “It is abject poverty in that area. When you are feeding these children you are making a difference in their education, their self-esteem.”
  • On June 5, Cyrus will play a concert in London’s G-A-Y nightclub. Other stars to have performed there include Madonna, Kylie Minogue, Christina Aguilera, Mariah Carey Lady GaGa and, most recently, Adam Lambert.

Dancing with the Stars: Handicapping the Final Four

May 17th, 2010

Just four couples remain, and just one episode tonight before the 10th season finale and presentation of the cherished Mirror Ball trophy next week.

It’s crunch time on Dancing with the Stars. Below, we break down the four pairs left standing and handicap their odds of bringing home the glory …

Chad Ochocinco & Cheryl Burke
Why they’ll win: Because #85 doesn’t back down from any challenge, and he and Cheryl have formed one of the best partnerships in recent years. They’ve been consistent and significantly better than most of the field so far.
Why they won’t: They get 7s and 8s. Nicole and Evan get 9s and 10s. If Chad and Cheryl advanced to the finals this week, it would be a surprise.
Odds: 25-1

Erin Andrews & Maksim Chmerkovskiy
Why they’ll win: Fan support. Chemistry. Regardless of whether Maksim Chmerkovskiy is seeing Erin Andrews nude, there is heat on the dance floor. Not just as gimmicks, either. Erin has thrived in Maks’ challenging routines.
Why they won’t: You need to be brilliant, not just very good; Judges dock points for their sexy routines; Good looks could also work against them.
Odds: 12-1

Cheryl and ChadErin Andrews and Maksim Chmerkovskiy Image

Evan Lysacek & Anna Trebunskaya
Why they’ll win: They put up one of two perfect scores this season, and he’s Nicole’s top competitor in terms of technical proficiency, skill and agility. If he has a great week, and/or her fans don’t vote en masse, he could pull an upset.
Why they won’t: Likely needs a 30. That’s a tall order. Have had more slip-ups and shown more flaws, albeit relatively few, than Nicole and Derek.
Odds: 4-1

Nicole Scherzinger & Derek Hough
Why they’ll win: She’s the most talented, already kind of a professional dancer and a perfectionist. The ladies love Derek, and don’t dislike the Pussycat Doll.
Why they won’t: No reason.
Odds: 6:5

Jake Pavelka: Vote For Me on Dancing with the Stars!

April 24th, 2010

Long hours. Intense pressure. No pants. Jake Pavelka can endure that. Handling the “popularity contest” that is Dancing with the Stars? He’s got issues there.

“I think dancing-wise, I’ve been doing OK,” The Bachelor star said. “The thing I wasn’t really prepared for was this is a little bit of a popularity contest!”

“I’ve been focusing 150 percent of my energy on learning dancing and neglecting the 25 million people who don’t know they have to vote to keep you on.”

Only 150 percent, Jake? Might wanna kick it up to 175, dog.

“Look at the competition,” he says, “and [Chad] Ochocinco has 800,000 people on his twitter! I have 16,000. By the way, my twitter is @JakePavelka1.”

Jake Pavelka, No Pants

Yeah.

Solid plug, J. He does raise a valid point, though many fans do vote for who they like (hence, Kate Gosselin lasted five weeks). Still, Jake feels he’s up against it.

“It seems like everyone else is established in Hollywood, or they’ve walked on the moon, or run touchdowns for the Bengals. Everybody has a huge personality.”

Well, the show is Dancing with the Stars, man. It’s not Dancing with Peeps From Other Reality Shows and Celebrity Gossip Tabloids So We Can Boost Ratings.

The future Mr. Vienna Girardi, who was “shocked” he landed in the bottom two at one point, has stayed out of it the past two weeks as the field has narrowed.

Think he can win? Do you want him too? Who’s your favorite couple in this popularity contest? Tell us who you’re rooting for on Dancing with the Stars below:

Chace Crawford Steps Out of Footloose Remake

April 13th, 2010

Chace Crawford

Kevin Bacon’s dancing shoes are proving to be hard to fill.

After replacing Zac Efron in the Footloose remake, Chace Crawford has now backed out of the project due to scheduling conflicts, Entertainment Weekly reports.

Chace Crawford joins Footloose

The flick is set to start filming this summer, which would overlap with Crawford’s Gossip Girl schedule as the CW drama resumes production for Season 4 in July. Paramount Pictures will now most likely cast an unknown to play Ren, a source told EW.

Crawford, 24, is the latest high-profile name the film has lost in the past year. Nearly six months after Efron exited the musical to avoid being typecast, director Kenny Ortega dropped out in October, citing exhaustion from his work on Michael Jackson’s documentary This Is It. The project has also undergone a rewrite.

Julianne Hough grooves on with new projects

Footloose 2.0 still has its leading lady though: Dancing with the Stars pro Julianne Hough is attached to play Ariel, portrayed in the 1984 hit by Lori Singer.

Calls to Crawford’s rep and Paramount weren’t immediately returned.

Dancing’s Erin Andrews Trying to "Be All Va-Va-Voom"

Dancing with the Stars - Erin Andrews

It’s no surprise that Erin Andrews feels unnatural on Dancing with the Stars — not because she has never danced, but because she’s a self-described tomboy. “I’m sitting here looking at my face and seeing what all this makeup has done to me. It’s like, ‘Aaahh!’” she tells TVGuide.com. “There are just some things that you’re not used to.” The ESPN reporter, who will

Erin Andrews & Maksim Chmerkovskiy: Maybe Dating!

March 30th, 2010

Holy freaking hotness. That’s all we can say about the rumor that Erin Andrews and Maksim Chmerkovskiy, partners on the new season of Dancing with the Stars, are partnering off the dance floor as well. Maks even said it might be on!

Chmerkovskiy says that he and the ESPN sportscaster are “maybe” dating. That’s a lot closer to dating than “no,” right? He also lavished praise upon his partner.

“She doesn’t hold back. She’s open, and what you see is what there is,” Chmerkovskiy told People magazine. “Everybody who meets her falls in love with her.”

Himself included? Sounds like it!

Erin Andrews, Maksim Chmerkovskiy

Erin Andrews and Maksim Chmerkovskiy work it.

Chmerkovskiy, who was engaged to fellow Dancing with the Stars cast member Karina Smirnoff for a time, credited himself for pushing Andrews during their first dance together last Monday, which ranked among the season premiere’s best.

“I made her do a cha-cha that I would make a professional dancer do,” he said, and it paid off, as Erin Andrews isn’t shy about gushing about him either.

“When Kentucky was upset, [Maks] texted me about it,” the ESPN reporter said of having to miss some of the NCAA tournament for DWTS rehearsal. “Maks was like, ‘You are the only person I know that cares about this.’ He’s been adorable.”

Who are you rooting for on Dancing with the Stars? Erin and Maks? We can understand that, but there are other good candidates too. Vote below …

Dancing’s Jake Pavelka: I Feel Dumb Every Day in Rehearsal

March 26th, 2010

  • Mar 25, 2010 10:00 PM ET
  • by
    Joyce Eng

Jake Pavelka

Jake Pavelka got a rude awakening on his first day of Dancing with the Stars rehearsals. “I have no dance experience, but I have done the two-step and three-step and salsa. I kind of boasted about that a little bit,” he tells TVGuide.com. “Then Chelsie [Hightower] goes, ‘I’ve got to tell you something, Jake. You don’t know how to dance.’ I was like, ‘Thank you for shattering all of my confidence!’” The former Bachelor star has since learned the Viennese waltz, which earned him a score of 20 this week, and is now working on the jive, a dance that is doing a number on his knee. See why he’s having so much trouble, what he has to say to those who are still mad he chose Vienna over Tenley and more.

TVGuide.com: You said in the video package that you feel dumb in rehearsal. Do you really or was that just one down moment?
Jake Pavelka: No, it’s like that every day! [Laughs] I look at myself in the mirror and I feel dumb. … I’m not trying to play the woe-is-me card, but the one thing I did on The Bachelor is that I was just myself. If I felt stupid or felt awkward, it was just that. Dancing with the Stars is just taking me right back there. It’s funny because it’s such a wild, physical ride. I mean, nobody wants to look dumb. It doesn’t matter who you are!

Meet the Season 10 Dancing cast

TVGuide.com: Are you struggling that much with the jive?
Pavelka:
It’s not every move, but it’s particular parts of the routine that you’re trying to build up your emotions. It’s a fun dance, a fast dance. You’re trying to make yourself look good. I do that macho thing where I try to appear confident with the moves, but I’m not!

TVGuide.com: You have a bunch of blisters, but no injuries yet, right?
Pavelka:
Oh, so many blisters! My dad, who’s a doctor, said the best thing to do with a blister is to leave it or if it pops, use Vaseline to stop infection. My right knee — wow. There’s a move in our jive. It’s a really heavy dip that we do real quick. You know what your rear feels like when you get a booster shot? [Laughs] My knee feels like that every time I walk. Chelsie has been stretching the snot out of me to prevent [injuries]. It hurts bad. We do 45 minutes every single morning. She just walks over and turns me into a pretzel until I cry. I haven’t had a lot of seriously pulled muscles like some other dancers.

TVGuide.com: You’ve done weight-lifting. Does that give you an edge at all?
Pavelka:
It’s really good because I can lift Chelsie and move her around really easy. The problem is the muscles you develop lifting weights are really short and powerful. Those are not dancer muscles. Chelsie’s muscles are really long and slender and powerful.

Dancing’s Tony Dovolani: What’s with all the Kate hate?

TVGuide.com: How did you get involved with the show? Did ABC approach you?
Pavelka:
ABC approached me just before the final [Bachelor] episode, like two days before. I was like, “Are you serious?” I was really flattered and wanted to say, “Yes, yes, yes! I will, I will, I will!” But I told them I had to think about it because I had promised Vienna we’d go to Dallas and start working on the relationship. Now I might throw her into this. This is like training for the Olympics. It’s crazy! You get up at 5:30 in the morning, you’re in the studio for six to eight hours, you do yoga or Pilates, you ice yourself down. I told her and she goes, “You didn’t tell them yes?!” [Laughs] She got more excited than I did. She’s gotten onboard and has been awesome.

TVGuide.com: Tenley has said she wishes she was doing Dancing. Do you think she should’ve been offered a spot?
Pavelka:
Her job is to dance. I think that would kind of defeat the purpose. They already have professional dancers. I’m not talking negatively about Tenley, but if she’s truly interested in doing the show … she should try to be a pro. I think they would look at her. She’s a beautiful girl and has a bubbly attitude. People are just naturally drawn to her.

TVGuide.com: A lot of fans were mad you chose Vienna over her. Are you worried if that will affect voting?
Pavelka:
I can’t control that. I can only keep my chin as straight up as I possibly can and, like on The Bachelor, just take everybody for a ride. If they feel I’m worthy of another week, then they’ll call in and vote. If they don’t, I’ll leave the competition the best dancer I can possibly be. I already feel so over-blessed to have this opportunity.

TVGuide.com: What do you have to say to fans who are still upset?
Pavelka:
People who disagree with my decision need to understand that I did what was right for me. Tenley absolutely, positively was not right for me. … I love her to death — if she called right now, I would drop everything and talk to her — but as far as the 60-years-down-the-road kind of relationship, emotionally we were there, but physically, we weren’t. I think both of them are equally as important. Also, she talked about her ex-husband a lot. People ask me if it’s editing, but no, she really did. And that’s fine. I’m glad she could talk to me about it, but she just needs some time for Tenley.

Dancing’s Cheryl Burke: I had to Google Chad Ochocinco, too

TVGuide.com: How are you and the rest of the cast getting along?
Pavelka:
They’re all family. The crazy thing is Chad [Ochocinco]’s competition, Nicole [Scherzinger]’s competition, everybody is competition, but I want to see them do well. … Niecy Nash impressed me the most. She was great! I’m a huge fan! Her family is kind of like the Osmonds. They just adopt you. I find that with the cast, too. I was having a problem with a turn in our Viennese waltz and Derek noticed it, so he came in and showed me. Everybody helps everybody out.

TVGuide.com: Chelsie said she would choreograph your wedding dance. Whose idea was that?
Pavelka:
[Laughs] That was actually Vienna’s idea. We’re a little ways away from that, but I think that would be awesome. We haven’t set a date yet. We’re trying to have a really mature relationship now. We have two nights a week where cell phones go away no matter what’s going on and we spend the evening together, walk down the beach. It’s just her and me. We get on the same page and talk about everything and make sure there’s nothing bothering each other, just get really grounded.
